Does Salt help wound heal quicker??
Question:
Answers:
Salt, in and of itself, does not speed up healing. Salt will dry out the wound and help keep it clean by absorbing fluids. Once the wound is dry, the body can work more efficiently. If you have a condition that inhibits cellular function ( ie: diabetes ), nothing will speed up the healing process.
Other Answers:
yes sir ree bob, it does
yah, like when you have mouth sores. gargle with salt and it heals at a shorter time
no not the salt it is the iodine they put in the salt to stop thyroid conditions like goiter
yes it does
Yes it does because it is a natural anti-biotic (kills germs)
. and the iodine is to prevent goiters, but the salt is what helps with a wound.
I know Epsom salts are good to soak in when you have joint pain.
Yes it does, but it hurts badly also!
I never heard of that one. O_o Tell you what, pour some salt on an open wound and let me know how it feels. Yikes! >_<
there arent anti biotics in it, that idiot doesnt know what he is talking about. it does clean it but no, not help heal faster, get triple anti biotic ointment
Sea salt is good for open wounds. Just add sea salt to warm water and soak the wounded area for 10 to 15 minutes two to three times a day. After you clean the area with a antibacterial soap.
Yes, salt in water, or sea water, helps a lot.
Throwing salt into an open wound would hurt.REALLY BAD! Why not try hydrogen peroxide?
Yes, it does. I've also put lemon on a cut and it heals right before your eyes, but it will sting. You have been forewarned.
not really..you see ,it kills germs, but also causes tissue injury by causing cells to lose more water than normal, whicc isn't good for healing. The best approach would be a saline wash, then a non-saline dressing.
Yes, it does. It acts as an antiseptic.
Not that I am aware of, if that was the case, why wouldn't we put salt in insertions we make at the hospital?
Salt? Hmmmm. bet it hurts like a Son of a Beeotch! Perosnally I think all these people who say yes to u just want you to experince a poop load of PAIN!! Go the store an get triple atibiotic ointment.less painfull and more sanitary!
It's probably best to avoid treating yourself with cures you aren't sure about, you'll probably just end up doing more damage. I'm not familiar with using salt to help wounds heal, however, you would be introducing foreign substance into the wound which could contaminate it, cause and infection or just irritate the skin. I would suggest calling a doctor or using neosporin.
I hear tell that saltwater does. As far as taking a load of salt and rubbing it into your wound. Well..I don't know about the healing process. Unless you're one of those who says."The reason it hurts is because it's healing".
I myself would stick with antiseptics
the iodine in salt is right..if it is table salt. also the pain as a result of putting it on a wound helps too. ironically pain is nature ways of telling the brain to wake up and do something about it.but don't go poking yourself in the foot to increase arm immune response. (immune response is very localized)
Yes salt helps. alot actually however may I suggest another remedy please. it may hurt alittle and only do this on the out side of your body.. Never ever drink it. lol stating the obvious but some people you never know. any way pouring bleach on a open wound no matter how big or small it is and on the outside of your body lol.. will help it heal alot faster,, and less scarring if any at all. I Have many family members injured on a farm some injuries should of left horrible scarring , Example my aunt put her whole arm through a window while trying to open it.. and it cut her all the way from wrist to elbow. she poured bleach on it,, and wrapped it up tightly and guess what in a few days it healed with no scare. Second example. My uncle put a pitch fork through his brothers thigh accidental mind you.. and they poured bleach on it. no scarring and healed wonderfully. so try it it stings like a you know what but if you can handle the pain.. I am telling you its a remedied we still use in this family.
Clean all that stuff off.
If you have a dog, let him lick the wound and it will heal faster, Dogs have something in their spit which will heal it quick, I have seen it work first hand.
Putting salt on a wound will do more harm than good. Definitely DO NOT try bleach. A good natural treatment for a wound is to apply honey. Some kinds of honey contain natural antibiotics which come from the flowers the honey was made from.
