Can melaleuca be harmful if injested, say in cough syrup?

Question:

Answers:
It would depend on the amount and quality. Remember that oils are powerful and have medicinal qualities. Even pure oils can be harmful if used in too large a quantity. Melaleuca is not usually listed as an oil for oral use, small amounts used topically or in a blend would probably be safe. If it is used as a blend in a cough blend, especially if commercially prepared, than I would trust the formula to be safe if used according to the label dosages.

Other Answers:
I would say no. I use Melaleuca products, and so does my neighbor. Her son, almost two, drank some of their tub and tile cleaner, we called poison control, and they said he was fine, we didn't need to take him to the ER. He was fine. The same thing happened to someone I know who's daughter drank Melaleuca's laundry detergent, and she also was fine. Those aren't straight melaleuca oil, but it does have some in it. We also drink their Melaleuca tea, so there are products made for ingestion.
