What to do?

I have been having problems lately with my ear. About a week ago I came down sick. I had a horriable cough, congestion, and now I am doing better. But I am having discomfort in my right ear. When I swollow it fells and sounds like something is rubbing aginst my ear drum. When I swollow or drink or anything I am hearing a constant popping noise. It is very anoying. How can I get it to stop without having to go to the doctor? I am without insurance and a single mother of 2. So I cannot afford to see a doctor. Thanks for the help. and sorry for any miss spellings.

try using ear candle, they work well, remember not to hold them completely vertical to avoid the possibility of wax dripping into ear. they are available at most health food stores and herb shops.

You have a sinus/fluid build up behind your ear drum and it needs time and/or medication to clear. I too have had similar problems, but I haven't seen a doctor and it resolves itself.

Ask a pharmacist about sinus OTC. (over the counter)

it will stop on its own but it will take a long time and you will go through a series of not being able to hear like you were under water..but i had the same thing and i never went to the doctor for it and that's what happen to me but it took such a long time and do you have a grandmother who might have some antibiotics laying around just ask some people that you know so you wont have to go through that for as long as i did..some peoples problems might be different so if it starts to hurt or you see worse signs than what I've told you try going to the health department and tell them you dont work.its free..

Go to pharmacy & buy something called Guaifenesin. It should come in a bottle; liquid form. You probably have fluid buildup in your ear & that's what the pressure is.
Take the guaifenesin for about 10 days, following the dosing guide on the bottle.
This will help your body get rid of the congestion.

Sounds like you have some fluid build up from the cold you had. If you're taking antihistamines, stop. They dry up the sinus and nasal cavity. Take an expectorant only or something to open your sinus and let the drainage come out. Also, hydrate yourself with water, no sodas and lay off the salt and junk food that's full of salt. You want to enhance the fluids and let them drain,not keep them in your body. Use a saline spray in your nose if it's stuffy and a cool humidifier in the home if necessary. Hot drinks will enhance circulation and good old chicken soup will keep the sinuses flowing.

Try blowing you nose gently. With good hydration the fluid should drain out. I don't think you need antibiotics at this point unless any mucous is green/yellow in color. However, you can take a couple of aspirin (with food) to reduce any inflammation you might have in your ear.
