When I worked as a chemotherapy nurse with cancer patients interferon was just beginning to be used by the medical establishment. The idea was to stimulate the cancer patients immune system to fight the cancer which at that time was suspected of being caused by viruses. It was a harsh treatment and the patient suffered after the dose of interferon was administered. Whether it really helped or not I wouldn't say.
I believe it has been used with AIDS patients as well for similar reasons.
The herb astragalus stimulates the body in the same way and much more gently.
Interferons is first discovered by a japanese scientist in late 70s. It is believed to increase the immunity system.
Everytime certains virus attack the human body, it will produced interferons, these interferons are not strong enough to protect the body for the first attck but is efficient enough to combat the same virus attack the 2nd time. it also has the naturak killer(NK) cells, which can eliminate the bad cells from the body.
In recent years, the same scientist has also develop nutriferons...which is a natural products produce from herbs. this nutriferon can enhance the immune system to produce enough interferon to prepare the body from future viral invasions. nutriferons is patented product of only one company.
if enough interferons is produce, body can also combat most of the immune diseases,ie. the diseases that is cause by the immune system to attack the body own cells, eg. arthritis, SLE, etc.
