Any good remedies out there for chiggar prevention?

Question:
Anyone who has ever gone blackberry picking in the South, has ugly tales to tell about chiggar infestations. My question is this: is there something someone can consume to prevent these critters from attacking in the first place? I know it you take B1 - 500 mg. per day, the mosquitos won't bother you, but chiggars are a real nuisance if you spend any amount of time in the woods. Calamine lotion is great for the itching after the fact, but I want to know how to prevent these guys from biting me in the first place. Got any old timey remedies out there??

Answers:
Wear only loose fitting clothing, and nothing white. You either have to cover up completely or take the risk. They are attracted to areas where your clothes pinch in, like underwear or socks. They are also attracted to white anything.
I don't know if this will work for chiggers, but I have heard that vinegar helps repel mosquitoes. I'll try it the next time I spend an extensive ammount of time outside.
