Acne Cures: Remedies and Treatment Methods to Relieve Acne
Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN

Acne affects people of every age, gender, and race. It usually strikes in plainly visible locations such as the face, neck, chest and back. Acne can be caused by a number of factors such as contact with an oily substance, use of certain medication, steroids, or the secretion of certain hormones. Over ninety percent of acne patients respond to treatment, although the treatment may need to be continued for months or even years. Here are a few natural remedies that you can use to cure acne.

What Causes Acne?

As mentioned above, acne can be caused by a number of factors. Common causes of acne include contact with an oily substance such as mineral oil, vegetable oil, or petroleum and the use of certain medication such as steroids or the contraceptive pill. However, acne is most often caused by the secretion of androgens, or sex hormones that are initially secreted at the onset of puberty. Androgens are male hormones but they are secreted by females as well. They stimulate the production of oil from the skin's oil glands. When these oil glands become overactive and the exit from the gland is blocked, oil builds up in the gland and they begin to swell. This is how acne forms. A bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes normally colonizes this swollen gland causing the development of inflammation and pus. In particularly severe cases, the glands may burst into the skin and produce cysts. Recently health practitioners are associating acne with a fungus on the face. A clogged colon can also contribute to acne. We recommend using a colon cleanser like Oxy-Powder to keep the bowel clean.

How Can I Cure Acne?

Home Remedies:

A non-oily face wash that contains tea tree oil or echinacea can help to reduce the incidence of acne breakouts. Wash your face twice a day in the morning and evenings and rinse thoroughly with warm purified water.

Avoid oily and chemically ridden cosmetics or any facial products that contain socetyl stearate, isopropyl isostearate, isopropyl palmitate, isopropyl myristate, and sodium chloride, parabens as these ingredients can cause acne.

Give dry skin extra care, being sure to wash and rinse your face thoroughly and using products especially made for dry skin.

Natural astringent cleansers work to remove the oil buildup that may become blocked in the skin's glands. These products may cause dryness, itching, and redness, so be sure to use them only on problem areas.

Oxy-Skin™ is also a very effective natural remedy for the elimination of acne.
Herbal Remedies: Herbs such as chamomile, lavender, juniper, bergamot, dandelion root, and burdock root can be used to reduce toxicity and improve the overall condition of the skin. Echinacea and poke root are often used for their anti-inflammatory properties and red clover may be beneficial for its estrogenic action. Witch hazel has excellent astringent properties and may be very effective on acne. Here are a few natural herbal recipes to cure acne.

Combine ground ginger with milk and apply to the affected area.

Make a paste of honey and cinnamon and apply to the affected area at night. In the morning, wash this paste with warm water. Continue for one-two weeks.

Mix lemon juice with cinnamon and apply to acne

Mix ground orange peel with water to form a paste and apply to the affected spots. Wash with warm water after twenty to thirty minutes.

Rub fresh garlic on acne at frequent intervals to acne.

Use the juice of raw papaya to relieve swelling acne.

Make a paste of salt and vinegar and wash off after twenty to thirty minutes.

Rub fresh mint juice over acne.

Make a paste of turmeric and vinegar and apply to acne. Rinse with lukewarm water after twenty to thirty minutes.

Drink wheat grass juice to prevent and cure acne.

Apply a poultice of ground sesame seeds and water on acne to reduce inflammation.
Complementary Treatment

Acupuncture: Stagnant of Chi in the channels of the face is said to be the cause of acne. Acupuncture performed on these points of the face may help relieve acne.

Homeopathy: For patients with pustules and blind boils, especially on the face, neck, and back, may be helped by Kali brom. Selenium is often used for acne sufferers with oily skin, blackheads, and pustules.
Conventional Treatment- These treatmens we do not recommend.

Medication: Conventional acne medications may be topical- applied directly to the skin- or they may be systemic- taken internally. Medications include benzoyl peroxide, retinoic acid, steroids, antibiotics, oral contraceptives, and isotretinoin (Accutane.)

Therapeutic Injections: In severe cases of acne where cysts form and scars have developed, doctors have had some success with injecting steroids directly into the cyst to resolve the cysts and diminish the appearance of scars.

Surgery: In moderate to severe cases of acne, doctors may use surgery to open up the blemishes and remove blackheads and whiteheads. Unlike medication treatments, the effects of acne surgery are usually more immediate.

Im in the battle with you too. The only thing that seems to work for me is Birth control pills. But, since im trying to have a baby, i cant take anything that "helps". Try BC, it worked for me. But for now, Im in the same position as you.
I have been using Proactiv for about 8 years and love it. I would never go without it.

we had no luck with alternative medicine. what did work: antibiotics and cortisone cream, sunlight, lots of fluids, sufficient rest. stress aggravates it, as you no doubt know, and most of the non-medicinal suggestions are designed to lessen stressors on the body.
oh yes, -- and birth control pills.
My husband had severe acne while in high school (when we started dating), and tried everything. The only thing that eventually cleared it up was Accutane, but that is some serious business, so if you decide to go that way please be aware of all of the possible side effects. On the herbal note, my brother in law also had acne, and found that aloe vera cut straight from the plant and applied to his face worked wonders. Good luck, and know that acne is not something to be ashamed of, most of us have it at some point or another in our lives.
wash your face when it looks shiny , proactiv
may work... try to talk to your doctor. he will give you some cream or pills that should clear it up....

also...stress causes them...try to get rid of stress
Go to a dermatologist and ask for Acutane. This is the most powerful acne treatment available. It actually shrinks your oil glands. Make sure you are on the birth control pill when you take it, because it can cause serious birth defects. Actually, I think they make all females go on the pill when they are on acutane. Good luck!
I have a bad case of Genetic acne. I get it from both sides of my parents and it do sent go away. Both of my presents will have it until they get really old and i will too. However their is a medicine that can help. It is called Acutaine but the cheaper, generic form of it is called amnesteem. It works wonders. I started taking one daily for 3 months and now i take one a week. Eventually i will only take one a month or when needed but i works wonders. I have perfect and smooth skin but the side effects include dry nose which causes a couple nose bleeds, and dry lips. But my step brother is on the same medicine even though his acne just comes from puberty and hormones and will be done when he i all grown up. But this medicine works wonders and some doctors call it extreme but it isn't really. some patents even are subject to depression but my mom, myself, and my brother all take it and we aren't depressed.
put some honey on your face...for individual pimples, put some honey on, slap a band-aid on it overnight...the honey acts as an antispectic and will keep it clean and will greatly speed up the healing process
I got off of dairy, and my acne cleared up, about 70%, after 1 week. Then, I started taking fish oil capulets with multivitamins, and an additional 25% of the acne cleared away. I still have occassional blemishes that could probably be cleared up with some face cleaner stuff or something. But, that has been really helpful for me.
I have used a bar of soap called Face Doctor. It worked. It is based on Indian medicine Aruveydic (not sure of spelling) herbals. One claim for cause of acne is tiny parasites in pores. This soap kills the parasites over about a three week period of time. I only bought one bar. It was cheap and worked. It is sold in health food stores and some drugstores.
Use a natural hormone balncer called PLUS.

Rub your face with fresh basil and sage. It works, trust me.

1.Cleaning with Nuetrugena antibacterial glycerin soap
2.after washing, i use witch hazel, it is and antiseptic, and astringent
3.using oxyclear pads only where there were pimples(i only use these 3x's per week, can be skin drying)

Not sure if it's "natural" or not, but products with glycolic acid products are great. I was in my 40s and still getting zits. Now my skin is clear and smooth. Good luck.
If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

Here are some REALLY good, and very inexpensive ways to treat most acne at home. Try each method (unless you’re allergic to the ingredients) until you find one that works best for you. Good luck =) BTW, I know some of these may sound bizarre but try them…what have you got to lose other than the acne!!

1. Put toothpaste on your acne before going to bed. (Make sure it is paste not gel). It should reduce the swelling of acne noticeably.

2. Dab egg whites on your acne and leave on for 20 minutes or overnight. It’s supposed to pull the infection out of the blemish.

3. Wash acne infected areas twice a day with warm salt water. This reduces oils in the skin and helps to dry the acne up without further agitation.

4. Use ice on acne before going to bed. This works best on pimples that have not yet formed a head. It reduces swelling and helps to prevent scarring.

5. Wash and dab acne with cotton balls that have been soaked in vinegar. Let dry; do not wash off immediately.

6. Place strawberries leaves over your acne and the alkalinity will help to reduce the swelling.
