What is the difference between Metformin and Fortamet? TTC for 4 yrs.?

Question:
Is one better or what? Doctor took me off of Metformin, which was doing my mentrual cycles great. I don't understand. Been trying to get pregnant for about 4 years. HELP!!

Answers:
Fortamet is metformin. Fortamet tablets release the metformin more gradually. This keeps the body's blood glucose more level and less variable than plain metformin. It also promotes ovulation.

Much more information:
http://www.drugs.com/pdr/fortamet_extended_release_tablets.html
"FORTAMETâ„¢ was developed as an extended-release formulation of metformin hydrochloride and designed for once-a-day oral administration using the patented single-composition osmotic technology (SCOTâ„¢)."
AND
"This medication can cause changes in the menstrual cycle (promote ovulation) in women with certain fertility problems, therefore increasing the risk of becoming pregnant."

This is an older article, that does not list the new Fortamet version of Metformin, but does show how it helps in pregnancy:
