I have real problems relaxing my jaw muscles. Have tried loads of different things (no crude answers please)?
All my stress seems to go into my jaw. I've tried Indian head massage, flotation, yoga, reflexology, accupuncture etc etc. I can relax everything else but not my jaw. It started when my partner set up his own business about 3yrs ago with all the financial uncertainty, and though I'm not worried about that anymore, the jaw problem carries on. I get headaches because of it and it's generally a big pain - always there. Any tips? (I have M.E so can't do any jumping around!)

Answers:
I have ME too. You have to change your whole attitude to life. Think positively about everything. List all the negative things in your life right now (on paper if the brain allows) and then write the positive alternative.
Eg: Negative I can't afford a pint tonight!
Positive: Have I the price of a half-pint?

Hydrogen Peroxide and Epsom salt baths?
You could try ibuprofen cream or gel - I used to have a problem with my jaw and that helped it a bit (I could hardly open my mouth for 2 years and eventually had an opporation to fix it) - I found the gel worked better but doesn't get fully absorbed into your skin so peels off later in the day - very anoying when it's on your face! - you should try out some to find the best for you.

i don't know what M.E. is, but I know what you are talking about with the tight jaw
this may sound silly, but it works for me, because like you, my stress goes to the jaw
I wiggle my jaw from left to right and all around. it stretches just like you would want to stretch any tight muscle
then after a few seconds or minute of that i simply let it hang open for a bit and even breath out of my mouth so that i know i'll leave it open, hanging loose.
of course i look silly and try to do it when no one is around, but find myself doing it at work. when someone asks what the hell is wrong with me, i tell them I'm trying to pop my ears or something,
the tight jaw things draws in too many jokes
try chewing gum - tire the jaw muscle out so it doesn't lock tight and try to let your jaw hang-loose with your mouth closed, also try to exercise the jaw (open & close slowly)
Does anyone know how to get rid of a croupy cough ?
What helps me when I experience this problem is clenching my teeth extra-tight and then letting go - this relaxes the muscles for a while, then you may want to do it again. takes only a second and noone will notice! also, have you tried massaging the muscles around your cheekbones and towards your ears? generally, i'd try to find out what makes your so tense or you'll only be fighting the symptoms. all the best!
Has anyone used the product HEAL WARTS and does it work?
Try supporting your jaw in the palms of both hands with the fingers placed on the side of your face and your elbows on the table, with your mouth slightly open try to force your bottom jaw down but prevent it from opening with your hands. Only do this for a few seconds at a time as you will feel some discomfort but with practise you should find that the jaw muscles will relax. I must stress that i am not medically trained but had a similar problem myself and this exercise seemed to help.

Hypnotherapy is good for both. If you get a good therapist they will teach you relaxation techniques whilst in hypnosis. This will help you with both your M.E. and your clenched jaw.
The secret with most alternative therapies is to find a qualified practitioner that you are comfortable with, try a few of the links below.
Does anyone know of a surgeon that does tubal reversals?
Try sleeping with a thin mouth guard in. this will help relieve some of the tension and can actually train your jaw not to clench. THis happened to me a few years ago, and when I slept with the mouthguard in, I got better in about 2 weeks and didn't have to use it anymore. I have been fine since then. It sounds silly.I thought my Dr. was crazy when he told me about it.but it really worked!
