I have 3 crushed discs in my neck. I want to avoid surgery. Will accupuncture help?

Question:
I'm having numbing in my arms--have had more mri's than I can count. Today I go for a CT scan and bone density test at Yale. I'm just so tired of the pain (I take pain meds and they help) but mornings have gotton rougher. A chiropractor won't touch me because I've got broken bones along my spine---all this is starting 15 years after a bad car accident. Is it really possible to get pain from something so long ago? (obviously but hard to believe.
What do you think of acupuncture?

Answers:
I am glad that John had great results from his surgery. As an acupuncturist for many years I had hundreds of patients who had surgeries that didn't turn out so well.

Acupuncture is extremely safe and has little to no side effects. Why not try it before going in for a high risk surgery. Also, acupuncture has a very high cure rate with neck and back pain from trauma.
no
I had two discs replaced in my cervical spine and I feel fantastic. I am 42 years old and I have had the surgery now for three years. I never have pain and my mobility is perfect. I was fortunate enough to have an excellent neurosurgeon, That is the key. Find the best neurosurgeon and receive the best treatment. I had minimal pain directly after the surgery for a couple weeks and after that it was smooth sailing. I would highly recommend it...If you need more info, please feel free to contact me...
It depends on what you are defining as "helps". It's improbable that acupuncture will regenerate crushed discs, but there is a chance it will bring down your pain levels.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you just don't have pain, but also numbess which is indicative of compression of the nerve onto the bone. This may need surgical atttention. As tingling sets in, motor function will also decrease resulting in eventual dysfunctional use of your arms. Now you have pain and dysfunction, not a pretty combination!

Try acupuncture for your pain. Even if it does work, monitor the use of your arms. If you start dropping things, consider the surgical option.
Before resorting to surgery...

I would recommend receiving... yes, acupuncture and also: trigger point therapy, also called myofascial release.

I have had very good success even from old injuries, and it is very safe.
Yes accupuncture will help. Also, get another consult with a good chiropractor. If the right technique is used, the pressure can be taken off of those discs, as well as the nerves. I have taken care of many people with the same problems, even have a set of xrays in my viewbox right now of a woman who has had 2 cervical fusion surgeries, and still has the same level of pain. With the use of accupuncture and chiropractic, the body will return to a balanced state, and this is where the body heals.
