Marijuana alleviates tension and stress. If you are against this then maybe try some neck rolling exercises, and drinking a chamomile tea, or even just warm tea with a bit of honey. Warm milk w/ or w/o honey is a good way to relax as well.
The most popular things for general relaxation are Valerian, Chamomile, and Hops. but some people actually wake up when they take these and are just very relaxed.
If you're looking more for sleep, there's Melatonin, L-Tryptophan, 5-HTP, Scullcap (an herb... it just sounds bad), L-Taurine, and Passionflower are all very popular to help people sleep naturally.
There are also some supplements that can help with stress and relaxation if you wanted natural help for that. There is St. John's Wart, SAMe, some B-Vitamins, GABA, Ashwagandha, and L-Theanine
One herb you could try would be Skullcap - . find the liquid extract form of it,. which is more concentrated. . Take one teaspoon 3 to 4 times per day.
You should be able to find this in a health food store.
I would recommend rubbing pure essential lavendar oil on your temples and sipping some chamomille tea. It works great for tension headaches.

i agree with the skullcap. also, calcium-magnesium often brings relief to chronically spasming muscles. and it seems silly, very often, headaches are relieved by upping your daily water intake. though, my personal (biased) opinion is that you'll get the most relief from seeing a professional massage therapist who specializes in treatment work! (along with the water) Acupuncture can work wonders as well!
Brahmi, I am thinkin bout giving it a try too.
Its been used by lots of Yogis all over the world.
When you mix it with tulsi its even more effective for stress relief and rejuvination according to studies. I found a website for teabags with these herbs. Brahmi is also called Gotu Kola

Thats the one i am intrested in because it seems safe clean and very healthy
I put Lavender oil on my pillow before laying down every other night (the set lingers long enough), and it relaxes me nicely. But for your case, the smell might be too strong, so either dab on your pillow as much as you can handle or use a diffuser so it's not right next to your nose!
There have been allot of great suggestions for relaxing herbs here, however, tension headaches are typically based in Liver Qi Stagnation. When the Liver energy stops circulating correctly, the Liver heats up. As heat always rises, it causes a headache.
Try soothing the Liver with formulas that contain bulpeurum.
Here is a good formula to try:
