What are the dangers of off the shelf sleeping pills?

Question:
Someone I trust just gave me 3 sleeping pill and told me to "get the hell out of my face" are they safe? What are some of the things I should watch for? All I really know is not to drive if you have taken them.

Answers:
they are an antihistamine, that is all. 50% of people will get slightly sleepy, the other half will become nervous and have a hard time falling asleep! good luck.
Be careful you don't become dependent on them! Sleeping pills, if you must take them, are a temporary crutch, to be used only until you determine and take care of what's keeping you awake.
Safe as long as you don't take 3 all at once. On nights when I'm feeling a little anxious or want to be assured I'm going to sleep well. I use Tylenol PM. What ever is in that stuff, I get a great night's sleep and don't feel all hung over in the morning.
Why did someone tell you to get the hell out of your face? If someone told me that and handed me pills, I for sure would not take them!
