Reiki practioners, curious of your opinions concerning symbols for healing??

Question:
The oriental symbols that are used, what is it about each design (shape) that is believed to heal? and where did this 'knowledge' come from?{history}
IF one uses these designs in artwork, is it believed to have some 'healing power' sense the image has been created over material, or is it believed that it only has healing qualities during a reiki session?
sense supposedly these designs 'have energy' when created just curious

Answers:
The knowledge came from Usui...

different symbols do different things...and if you have been attuned to reiki and have been taught the symbols...you can use them any time...for many different things...

drawing the symbol out on paper is believed by some to be the most powerful way to use the symbol...

Hope this helps!
I recommend getting a copy of Diane Stein's book Essential Reiki. It is the book I used when I studied for my attunements. She explains things beautifully when it comes to the use of the symbols. You should be able to get a copy at the library or book store. I hope this helps some because I can't possibly do as well explaining it all as she did. The symbols are all listed at the back of the book and it explains their significance. So if you want, just hit a book store and read that last page and it should explain all you want to know. But I recommend reading the book to understand fully.
The use of the symbols in healing is passed on from master to student. The uses can be learned from books, but the Reiki energy can only flow once one has been 'attuned' by a Reiki master.

The origin of Reiki began with MIKAO USUI. He was a Christian Monk, born in Japan, in the second half of the 19th century. After years of hard researches and intense mystic experiences, he discovered the secret of the healing, calling it REIKI. During his life he handed down his teachings to more than two thousand people and initiated 17 Masters.

Only a master can pass on the Reiki energy to other people, and it is passed on as Level I, Level II and Level III which is Master.

Art work would be healing if it were to be 'charged' by a reiki practitioner.
I was just reading the answers because I am not to familar with the practice of Reiki. I do Tia Chi, an obviosly much simpler understanding of energy. It appears that the Reiki masters have some how monopolized the ability to understand how energy works. A very curious ideal but one that I think I will avoid. Thanks for the question
