Sleep aide besides sleeping pills?

Question:
Someone I know has had a hard time sleeping for the past two nights. Even with the help of sleeping pills they aren't getting to sleep til about 5-6am. And they wake up around 10am. Does anyone know of any remedies for sleepless nights? BESIDES medication. Thanks for the help!

Answers:
depending on the age this could actually be enough sleep. The older we get the less sleep we need. however if this person is young there are a few things they can do. First take a nice warm bath before bedtime with lavender soap bath crystals or anything else lavender. Make sure they aren't studying in their room or watching tv your bedroom should be for sleeping only. When this person is ready for bed they need to make sure their room is a comfortable temp, their bed is comfortable, and a constant noise is good such as a fan. When this person goes to bed no food or drink 6 hours before bedtime this could have a HUGE impact on their sleep especially if they are consuming caffeine. When they finally lay down to sleep everything should be off... cell phone, house phone, tv, everything! While laying down have them count deep breaths... breath in deep and breath out and count your breathe on you exhale. Many times when I am having trouble sleeping I do this and I don't get to 30 before I pass out. If this person has a lot of stress they need to write it all down before bedtime, when they write down all their stressors they should write next to it how they are going to resolve the issure whether its a relationship or paying a bill. The more things they knock off the list the better they will feel. I hope this helped and sleeping aids just knock you out and you don't get a deep sleep anyways!
marijuana
celestral seasonings make a sleep tea try that?
You don't say the age of this person, but if they are of age, a small glass of wine might help along with a warm bath, no distractions like light or music, and though I've never tried it, yoga is a great relaxer. Your friend may have a lot of stress which will definitely mess with your sleep. Also sleeping late messes you up in that you feel wide awake when you should be sleepy. Medication is not good to rely on because your body will eventually get used to it and you might need more.
Almost always when I can't sleep it's either because of stress, or I've eaten or drunk something sweet after 6:00, or had coffee after 4:00. A glass or juice or bowl of ice cream can keep me up.
Never use sleep aids! They really mess you up and are very addicting. Same for cold medicines as sleep aids - stay away! I've known two people go into serious depressions because of it.
Drink a glass or warm milk, red wine, have sex (with a partner or alone - ha ha!) And give yourself some time to go to sleep.
If the sleeping problem is just for 2 nights, then it is not very serious. But if the person is on sleeping pills for longer periods and now those are not effective, then its remedies are different. It also matters WHY the pills were prescribed in the first place.

However, there are instances of people getting rid of sleeping pills and getting sound sleep, after learning Reiki, touch heal therapy, from TRADITIONAL Reiki Master and teacher and then practising it daily for atleast 21 days.

Selection of the teacher needs to be done carefully as it is not a business but should be a way of life for the teacher, though one is required to pay fees to learn it.
Melatonin, found by the vitamins in the store and its a natural herb that is not addictive. if i can take this before i go to bed during a 2yr break up then you will def fall asleep!
valerian root
I love valerian. You can get it in pill form at Walgreens. It's good for those occasional nights when you can't sleep, but you don't wake up feeling like crap in the morning like some sleeping pills. (It does smell like stinky feet, but it works.) Is your friend watching TV to pass the time at night? Watching TV can be terrible for insomniacs. Suggest reading a book or listening to music to help them relax. Lavender can also help with relaxation. Get some lavender essential oil and have your friend rub it on their temples. Helps with headaches, too!
Melatonin always works for me. People naturally have it in their bodies, but sometimes you need a little extra. You won't wake up all groggy. It's also not a medication, and it's cheap to buy.
Valerian Root, or Melatonin, both herbs sold at your corner store. Plus no naps in the day time, or caffiene after lunch. Try this and I hope it helps.
Chamomile tea will help. It's soothing, smells good and with a little sugar or honey is very pleasant tasting. A warm scented bath, some very soft music, reading a chapter before bed are all good ways to relax and get drowsy in a healthy way.
Anyone who cannot sleep despite taking sleeping pills will sleep like a baby after taking a dose of the Homeopathic remedy NUX VOMICA in 30 potency. Without any side effects or complications, or you can look up another remedy from this previous answer of mine :- http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

Take Care and God Bless.
First don't consume any caffeine six hours before bedtime.
Second, drink a cup of warm chamomile tea one half hour before bedtime and read something that doesn't get you upset.
Valerian Root, it doesn't smell the greatest, but it quiets the mind and you drift off. When you wake up you do not feel hung over.
