The two main things for heartburn are aloe vera juice and DGL.
The aloe I prefer is the one made by Goerge's. It tastes like water, but it gets rid of heartburn lickety split.
DGL helps to heal the damage done by heartburn.
Also, taking multi-enzymes when you eat is playing offense instead of defense, because it helps to break down the food better, thereby greatly reducing the chance of getting heartburn.
One more thing. Avoid taking baking soda for heartburn. Our stomach is supposed to be acid. If you alkalize it, your food doesn't get digested properly AND the rest of your body can get seriously messed up as it tries to compensate for the improper stomach pH.

Drinking water with baking soda mixed in is supposed to neutralize the acid (warning: it will also make you do the biggest burp of your life). Other things that can help greatly are sleeping sitting up or with your head slightly elevated and avoiding too many carbonated drinks, as they can back up and give you heartburn. Also, if you feel like you're going to throw up, allow it to happen and don't fight it, as this action alone can often fix the problem or at least reduce it. (Don't induce vomiting, though; just allow it to happen if you can tell it's going to.)
Sure George ..... put a heaped teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of water and drink up. This will very quickly realkalise an acid body and is natural, cheap and effective for those of us with sensitive little bodies.

No Kelly E, your tummy is meant to be able to produce hydrochloric acid to aide in the digestive process, but it is NOT meant to be in an acid condition thus setting the scene for tummy bloating, indigestion, constipation, gassiness, belching and fatigue!! In this condition, nothing is going to get digested anyways and plenty of discomfort will ensue. Baking soda will realkalise an acid tummy thus allowing healthy bowel movements to ensue .... :0)

I've heard of a spoonful of apple cider vinegar not only does it alter the lack of digestive juices but is an antisepitic for pylori bacteria the cause of ulcers . the facility is a little vague to me but here is one article that relates to vinegar and some claim vinegar and lemon works .

* Almonds are also a good source for relieving the heartburn and acidity. Eat several almonds when heartburn symptoms persist.
* Lemons also help to prevent heartburn. Cut a lemon into thin strips and dip in salt. Eat before meals to prevent heartburn.
* Take some mint leaves and chop these and then boil in a cup of water and sip slowly after meals. If a person drinks Fresh mint juice every day he will never experience acidity.
* Jaggery or gur taken after every meal also helps to reduce the acidity. Keep a piece of gur in the mouth and slowly suck it till acidity decreases.
* Eating bananas is also helpful in preventing the symptoms of acidity and heartburn. To prevent acidity it is advised to eat a banana daily.
* A mixture of 2 tsp of natural apple cider vinegar and 2 tsp raw honey in a glass of water before meals fights with acidity.
