Does Acupuncture really work?
Question:

I have been having acupuncture for two years for osteoarthritis and back pain. I had been having pain daily for several years before that. Now I am pain free. I had been sceptical about acupuncture but I would now recommend it. You do need to use somebody who is qualified and in the UK they should be members of the British Acupuncture Council. The website (www.acupuncture.org.uk) is very informative.
You do feel the needles going in but this is only for a split second and, once they are there, there is no pain. The number of needles used depends on what you need; there is no fixed number and the length of time they are left in also varies.
It is not cheap and, although some people feel the benefit immediately, it may take several sessions before you feel better. Have a go!
it works, but getta family frend if u can, cuz they r normally more likely 2 use only the needles u need, and if the chinese medicine person goes only 4 needles in ur shoulder, they quackin at ya
I was diagnosed with frozen shoulder turned out to be rheumatoid arthritis,
Acupuncture is a recognised branch of medical science. Yes it works wonders in cases involving joints & nerves as in ur case.
Having said that, remember in science, nothing gives hundred percent results for all the individuals & frozen shoulder is a really nagging problem.
I had chronic tennis elbow, pain killers and cortisone injections didnt work but after 5 sessions of acupuncture it was cleared, that was 4 years ago and still clear
Yes it can work-especially in my experience for musculo-skeletal conditions. It has a good western research validation as to why it works.I have had good results with shoulder injuries and frozen shoulders and backs
It is also worth considering standard physiotherapy.
Is there a specific history of injury or is it due to overuse? Also how long has it been frozen and what is the degree of movement.Discus with you doctor hopefully he will be able to advise best course of action
OUCH!....You are considering acupuncture...what does your doctor recommend or are you considering ignoring his advice. Whether alternative medicine works or not, do not ignore your doctor.
yep it really works.
Hello,
(ANS) Acupuncture has been scientifically proven to work, it works by stimulating very specific neurological pathways in the brain and it can change some of these pathways too.
**However, I tried acupuncture myself and although I found it quite powerful, it made me feel rather spaced out and sleepy. I wasn't sure it was the right healing method for me. What method of healing you use is very much a personal thing, some people respond extremely well to acupuncture and swear by it and for others it just doesn't seem to hold much benefit.
**I think how well the acupuncture works also depends upon the doctor or practitioner.
Ivan
my ex had acupuncture on arthritis in his knee. he is the most sceptical person on these things but having tried everything else he gave it a go. to our surprise it did work and helped the pain. only prob he had was his skin doesnt heal well so he was left with scars where the needles were put in, for a long time. might be worth a try if all else has failed u never know it may work for you but make sure u choose someone reputable.
World Health Organisation, WHO has listed certain illnesses that could benefit from acupuncture. The organization stated that acupuncture has been proven effective in relieving postoperative pain, nausea during pregnancy, nausea and vomiting resulting from chemotherapy, and dental pain with extremely low side effects. It can also alleviate anxiety, panic disorders and insomnia.
Acupuncture Benefit for Pregnancy
In Journal of Royal Society of Medicine 1989, research confirmed that stimulation on acupuncture points 5 cm above the crease of waist relieved and even eliminated nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy.
Back pain
If you suffer from back pain, acupuncture may offer some benefits.
Arthritis pain
Numerous studies have shown that acupuncture is effective in relieving arthritis pain.
Stroke attack
Stroke patients could also benefit from acupuncture, especially if the treatment begins within 40 days after the attack.
Acupuncture's record of success has stimulated a number of research projects investigating its mechanisms as well as its efficacy. It's commonly used to treat pain, relieve common ailments and promote general health. There is a growing body of research evidence on the effectiveness of acupuncture, especially to treat nausea (particularly postoperative), dental problems and low back pain. Acupuncture has been shown to induce reproducible patterns of neural activity in a wide variety of brainstem, midbrain and cerebral cortical structures. There is sufficient evidence, however, of acupuncture's value to expand its use into conventional medicine and to encourage further studies of its physiology and clinical value.
it works
I doubt whether it cures anything, but after months of acupuncure, I no longer feel all the problems in my spine, from collapsed and torn discs at the bottom, scoliosis in the middle, and arthritis in the neck, not to mention torn knee-cap and problems in ankle.
When I asked the acupuncturist how he had done it, he told me that the acupuncture relaxed the muscles which were causing various parts to press on nerves.
No pain after about 20 years, when conventional methods all failed.
Yes. My neighbour has had dangerously high blood pressure for more than ten years. the doctor kept increasing her tablets until she took 5 in all. She was so ill with a headache that she tried acupuncture in desperation. We both noticed a difference straight away. We walk up a hill every morning and she didn't have to stop half way and she didn't puff. She went to the doctor after 3 weeks and her blood pressure is definitely down.
