Asking this question in the middle of the night is kind of scary. Four people in my intern class at Walter Reed Army Med. Ctr. committed suicide, (shooting, 2 poisonings & a jump). I confess, I have called the suicide hotline from the on call room myself, (before caller I.D.). Thirteen years later, when I retired, I can't say that I really liked it any better - but I became better at it. I became less afraid & more confident. And, I did develop a taste for fine cars & penthouse suites. But, it becomes like any other job. There are good days & bad days. At first, (as you know) they are all bad. But, this is the one job that has days where when you hit the sheets; you smile & know why you were born. But, if you want to leave then do it. I would be happy to come to where you are, put my arm around you and walk you out. My friends in internship never gave me that chance. You know? If I had it to do over, I'd be a minister or a lawyer. You could go to law school & handle malpractice cases. I know people who did that. What ever you do - do it for you. If you decide to stay, understand that you are not the first M.D. to feel this way - far from it. I pray that you will find peace in whatever you do.
Why did you do medicine? what did you expect from it? You can do anything you put your mind to, Pharmacist work is good, you are still helping but don't have as many consultations, or hours...
What would you do if you won the lottery today?
Maybe you should do that now, don't wait for the lotto draw.
Good luck
Youré 25 and you already finished medical school? Did you have a life outside of school and stress? Did you do it to make yourself happy or to make bossy relatives happy? If you are not happy that is a message to take a step back, and enjoy your youth a bit before it's gone!
I am a chiropractor, and many of our teachers were MD's (some foreign and some US) and I must say we appreciated them very much, and had a lot of respect for their knowledge. Teaching is a great thing to do in general, then you don't have to worry about couphine up that 100K per year in malpractice insurance! Buy a guitar, sit on the beach a bit, take a trip. You need to seriously destress. Other than that, there are plenty of foreign countries that could badly need you, and if you enjoy helping people truly in need that could give your life more purpose (better than fighting with HMO's all day!) Much success. DCR.
Dont be afraid to change careers, especially at 25. Your still young and with a little good fortune, still have over 2/3 of your life ahead of you. The key is to be happy. If u dont like what ur doing, you wont be happy, its that simple.Your major problem would be the student loans. However, money isnt everything. Remember, when our time comes that we have to leave this world, all u can take with you are your life experiences, not ur money.
Do you like helping people? I know with your medical degree you could promote a healthy product for a MLM company and do very well! I work for an MLM company and do well but don't have the medical knowledge to explain why it is so helpful to people. I can tell people what the company says and give them the testimonies but, if I had the med background I think I could explain the process better. People listen to what a doctor says! I am seeing Dr.s in my town promoting the product I sell and doing well. Hope you find the answer your looking for. The stress of not being in a job you enjoy can really get to you. Good Luck!
What is it that you don't like about your job? What is your passion in life? Can you use your medical degree in that area? Check out some of the web sites below, maybe they will help you find a new area to work in. Good luck
Well, you obviously went into the medical field because you wanted to help other people when they are sick. Mu suggestion would be to look into homeopathy and the treatment of diseases from that angle. It is so much more therapuetic and helpful and you would be surprised how many illnesses and issues can be resolved through hompeopathic treatment.

Good Luck.
I know this is a trick question,by the way I'm James Bond! what should we both do?
