Truth Serum?
Question:
Answers:
Drugs used for this purpose have included ethanol, scopolamine, and the anesthetic induction agent sodium thiopental (more commonly known as sodium pentathol); all sedatives that interfere particularly with judgment and higher cognitive function. While grain alcohol (ethanol) is used for this purpose by many individuals in a more innocent sense, it is used by professionals as well. A book by a former Soviet KGB officer Yuri Shvets based in Washington details the use of near-pure ethanol to verify that a Soviet agent was not compromised by U.S. counterintelligence services.
It just makes you more likely to be candid. "truth serum" is mainly fictional. It makes you very open to suggestion ( i don't think most legal systems let things you say after taking it count as evidence). You could give someone these drugs tell them they did the crime and they would confess even though its not the truth.
This will explain it much better than me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/truth_serum...
I have heard of it and I want to try it.
sodium pentathol or chemically sodium thiopental.
Its not 100% though and won't guarantee you tell the truth.
I think it is fictitious I don't think it really exists because if that was the case we wouldn't have lie-detector tests for criminals they would just administer the truth serum.
It's a drug (well, lots of different drugs have the same effect) which reduces your inhibitions, and therefore your ability to lie. Alcohol's quite a good one...
Usually a barbiturate anaesthetic that also has the effect of 'loosening the tongue'. They are not very reliable though as people can also have hallucinations from them and mix fantasy with reality.
The KGB claims to have invented a drug called SP-17 which they say is highly effective and leaves the person with no recollection of having taken it or the happenings whilst under the influence of it afterwards. Whether it is true or not I doubt we will ever know..
sodium pentathol stops your brains 'want' to lie or invent stuff, it makes it lazy
direct questions are often answered because you cant be assed to lie, hence it flawed because if the truth clashes with the info you want..
They still do truth serum tests in India on suspects. Only the name appplied is Narco Analysis. It's a primitive method hanging onto its being a scientific-sounding test.
