I have a toothache that has been getting more severe.....?

Question:
over the last few days..is it true that chewing on raw garlic helps? Also does anyone know any other home remedies? Im willing to try anything at the moment as i cant get a dentist appointment and am going on holiday in a couple of days.

Answers:
From your "going on holiday" phrasing, I take it you're in the UK, at least not in the USA. I don't know if you can find it, but there's something called Red Cross Toothache remedy in our local pharmacies. It's mostly clove oil, comes with teeny littl cotton balls to soak in it and pack around the tooth. See if you can find Red Cross or any other clove oil.
hi !! why dont you try the doctors?or a hospital?they have surgeries in most hospitals training dentists.if you see the doctor he may prescribe antibiotics. good luck! p.s. chewing garlic ect wont help.try a good antiseptic mouthwash.or saltwater!
clove oil might help some people might say let a paracetamol or aspirin melt on the tooth but don't do this my dentist says it helps for a few minutes then makes it worse as it burns the gum round about
Oil of cloves is meant to be good. Beware of flying with an infected tooth, once you hit 35,000 ft you'll be in agony, I've done it! The pressure in the tooth makes it unbearable. Try to get an emergency appointment before you go, even if you have to pay.
I hear chewing on tabacco helps - the cowboys used to do this - paracetamol is also good but can't be taken long term. It is also dangerous to take too much.
I don't know where you are from but isn't there an emergency dentist anywhere - it's worth travelling to get the treatment.
mouth wash with hydrogen peroxide mixed half and half with water. Please do not swallow as you will be in a world of hurt worse than your tooth ache.

Also avoid anything sugary especially sodas which bacteria feed off of.

Finally make sure you floss as trapped food material can cause many tooth related problems.
ohhh hate that.. i had that before and rubbed whisky on the gum it makes it go numb for only awhile know, but it takes the pain away for a bit... can u get co-codomal tablets over the counter if u cant get them prescribed,if u can then try them they worked wonders on my toothache..
good luck
If it is infected, a tea bag held over the tooth (gently biting) will draw out the infection.

Clove oil applied to the tooth works WONDERS.
Always worth going to your doctor, or even the hospital, to complain about this dreadful pain - because what you need is some anti-biotics, and if you're lucky your doctor or the hospital will prescribe them for you. You may also find that if you tell your dentist's receptionist that you know you have an infection and need some anti-biotics, that she will let you see the dentist for 5 minutes so he can prescribe them for you.
There is nothing a dentist can do for you while you do have an infection and all he can do is to give you a prescription.
If there is any swelling it is an infectiuon anyway - and all infections are dangerous .
Swishing on salt water
u can try and ring ur original dentist n ask dem if they now ne1 wu will do emergency service as u dont wanna go on holiday wid it x
Try this..based on Mrs Beeton circa 1870..place a copper coin and a piece of aluminium foil on either side of the affected tooth..the saliva acts as a fluid for the 'battery'..should be sufficient to send an electrical discharge down the root nerve to cancel the pain. Alternatively try the same (cautiously!) with a 9V PP3 battery..Good Luck!
go to a g.p. and get some anti-biotics to kill the infection its only what the dentist will do but it will cost more in pain, time and money
phone the emergency dentist and they will help have a nice holiday
Ibuprofen works best for toothaches. It is also an anti-inflammatory. 800 milligrams can be taken as long as you don't have liver problems. See a dentist soon.
Only "bluebudgie" and Roger R (and I) have respectable answers for you. If you don't go see a doctor, in an ER or anywhere you can, your situation can only get worse, and more painful, and the ultimate "cure" you'll have to get when you return from your vacation will only be more costly and more painful. I have personal experience in your predicament as far back as 1970, and as recently as 2004. In 1970, my delay in getting proper treatment ended in my needing a root canal. Thank God my parents were still around to pay the bill, but that still didn't alleviate the discomfort in getting the root canal. My situation in 2004 I dealt with by going to the local ER with my very painful tooth. The ER doctor gave me an injection in my gums for the pain, and a prescription for antibiotics, and a recommendation that I see a dentist ASAP, which I did, and my problem was cured. Don't be as blockheaded (aka: stupid) as me and quite a few others I've known. Dump the "holiday" if need be, but go see a dentist ASAP!! God Bless you.
either go to the dentist or get a bottle for whiskey pour a spoonful out and put it on your tooth that aces kill the pain
try putting some ground cloves on it,it tends to numb the pain with most tooth aches
The only thing that ever worked for me was paracetamol. Can you get to the dentist or your doctor so they can subscribe a stronger pain killer.
well i get those bad toothaches too. try ibroprophen and ice. it should work. there are also many dentists that do emergencys.. u can try that..
if ur going on holiday u need to see yr local emergency service. u can buy clove oil in chemists and dab that on thats the best natural remedy. also painkillers particularly ibuprofen if ur able to take it, ask a pharmacist for advice on what to take u really need to see a dentist before u go. have u tried explaining to yr dentist ur going away? if so without luck then look up yr local emergency dental service. good luck and enjoy yr hols.
