Is there any household cures for swimmers ear?
Question:
Answers:
Make up a 50/50 solution of vinegar and alcohol. Put in a few drops after swimming. Vinegar is antifungal, alcohol dries out excess wetness.
Works like a charm.
Use it every time you swim, even if you do not have an active infection.
Good luck!
* Avoid any further trauma to the ear. Do not attempt to remove visible debris or drainage from the ear.
* Apply heat to the ear to control the pain at home. Warmth from a heating pad may provide some relief. Fold a towel in half and place it between the heating pad and the ear. Limit the use of the heating pad to short periods. The folded towel should help prevent accidental burning of the ear if the heating pad is too hot.
* If you're not allergic, you may try a variety of over-the-counter pain medicines such as aspirin, ibuprofen (such as Advil), or acetaminophen (such as Tylenol).
* Nonprescription eardrops are not usually strong enough to cure the problem. Such drops are useful only for prevention of episodes after water exposure. Eardrops used for treatment of the condition must be obtained with a prescription from your doctor.
Warm olive oil one or two drops.
hydrogen peroxide 1% solution mixed with an equal amount of distilled white vinegar. Add 10-20 drops to your ear while laying on your side and wait 15-20 minutes or until the peroxide stops bubbling. Do other ear. Fantastic for smashing ear infections in all mammals i've cared for. Myself included.
My brother had that condition. My mother tried the aforementioned program and it didn't work. It happened that he went to the doctor to have his ear cleaned. The doc found a whole bunch of stuff in it. He had been swimming for a long time and it just kep buidling up over time. The doc couldn't believe how much was in my brothers ears. so you might have to get them cleaned out also. if they hurt you after the cleaning then you can use the heating pad and all. Good luck and God Bless.
I was always told as a kid to put a few drops of alcohol in my ears after swimming to dry out the water. That's more for prevention, than curing, though.
