Feel bad 'bout leaving dog alone all day?
We work from abou t 7 am - 5 pm and we have a pug that is alone for the entire time. I feel awful and am wondering if I should get him a playmate. Or if other ppl work that amount of hrs too and their dogs are fine?

If he sleeps when you are home, he probably sleeps while you are at work. Give him plenty of attention when you gret home.
I agree leave a radio or TV on for sound. Maybe you can find a dog walker for a couple days a week. Other peole work too and have no problems. A new pup could make him jealous and when will you have the time to train a pup.?

It's a tough one. A playmate is probably not the answer. In some towns, there is a doggie day care service where you can drop off your dog for the day, then pick him up. If your dog has plenty of water and space, not to mention some food, it will survive.

They get used to it. If your dog is a puppy he will get into mischief if he's alone. Older dogs sleep a lot but I usually always try to have more than one so the don't feel so alone

They love it and you don't have to send him 5 days a week. Just maybe two days in the week, split them up.

Well what I do is when I get home try taking him/her for a walk and then play with them and give them all the attention that you can, even on your day off .. your dog will have a happy , healthier life if you walk your dog, or take him the the doggy park, he will make friends and play! That is what I do! So think about that,, and don't feel guilty I mean you have to work!
Sounds like he is well loved and well taken care of. If you feel really bad, you can hire a pet sitter to take him out during the day.

He is probably fine I have to do the same thing with my dog but I just leave the t.v. and the radio on and plenty of food and water for her and then when i get home i just take her outside and giver her a lot of attention and whenever i am at home i just make sure that she feels loved so just do that and it will be fine.
I have a husky/shepherd mix and he is fine for that amount of time. I usually leave the door to the back portch open so he can sit on a chair and be outside where its nice and cool(he loooves the cold). But if it gets too cold i'll close it and he will just have ot deal with playing inside. Your dog should be fine, just make sure you make up for lost time durring the weekends and when you are at home. =) they love seeing you when you get home and love even more when you take them outside for a long walk or play with them for a while.
