Acetaminophen w/ codeine & promethazine?

Question:
im really worried about my friend..he told me he got acetaminophen w/ codeine and promethazine and he said he was gonna take them together and i wasnt sure what to say to him...what is would happen if he takes them together? please help!

Answers:
It's fine as long as he is taking the recommended doses. It's given together in the hospital... promethazine is an anti-emetic, it counteracts nausea from other drugs, like the codeine. It will make him more drowsy than the codeine alone, and he shouldn't be driving or anything, be as long as he's following dosage, he should be okay. You're a caring friend for inquiring.
they are given together in the hospital all the time, as long as he doesn't take a double dose of one or the other he should be fine. He must not drive while taking this combination however.
Promethazine (Phenergan) is sometimes given with the pain medication if it causes nausea... It may make him sleepy, but if the doctor gave them both to him, more than likely he wanted him to take the phenergan if he got nauseated from the pain med.
The worst thing that would happen is if he takes them as prescribed is that he will get sleepy. He shouldn't drive or opperate machines or take care of kids by himself.
He shouldn't take more than the prescribed amount of acetaminophen - too much of that stuff can kill your liver
!!

acetaminophen with codeine is tylenol with codeine - a pain killer, and promethazine is phenergan- an anti-nausea medicine.
Worry about the addiction as this is the only danger.
Or an allergy.
Otherwise "safe".
