Do you know of a natural remedy for child's ear infection?

Several things: I use mullein/garlic/warmed olive oil for earaches. Usually this works very, very well. You can buy ear oil or mullein/garlic/olive oil ready made, or you can make your own. E-mail me for directions on how to make your own if you like. It's super easy. Some families have excellent luck with adding ear candling. Some are highly sceptical and do not even want to try this modality. I ABSOLUTELY agree that recurrent ear infections are usually a sign of dairy or wheat allergy, and I did know one little boy who was allergic to apple juice, that staff of life for kids, so don't rule this out! I urge you not to go the allopathic antibiotic route, as this will indiscriminately kill all the bacteria in your child's gut, both bad AND good. And this can cause dysbiosis which will further imbalance him and can take years to rectify. Eliminate dairy, especially full fat dairy. Some kids eat bagels w/ cream cheese, cereal w/ milk, milk and pizza for lunch w/ ice cream for dessert, and even more meat and full fat dairy for dinner (as in enchiladas and lasagne and more pizza and burgers for dinner). If these are some of his biggest sources of calories, go to cultured dairy like kefir and yogurt. Quit the sugars as this feeds the bacteria and acidifies the blood and makes it worse.
I've had luck w/ giving kids "green water" to drink. Go to the healthfood store and buy either liquid alfalfa or Kyo-green by Wakunaga and follow the package directions, halving the dose for young children. You may also find that by adding lots of warming spices to your child's food, like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, mace, allspice, a bit of cayenne if he'll take it (and for some kids, that's a big if...), chai w/ soymilk, that this helps break up mucous in his body and gets rid of the cause of the ear infections once and for all. As we're coming into the autumn soon, give him things like oatmeal w/ cinnamon and raisins or nuts (if he likes and can have those things), mulled cider, spiced, warmed pear juice if indeed he seems sensitive to the apple products, warmed spiced pear sauce w/ granola for dessert, sweet potatoes or yams w/ garlic and a bit of curry as a side dish, etc. etc. Give him tons of greens and veggies in his diet w/ lots of garlic. My kids eat something green every single day of their lives. Mom insists. I make a curried tuna salad and a curried chicken salad to get lean protein and a bit of those warming spices into my children, but this is not necessarily everyone's cup of tea, especially kids.
In hydrotherapy, alternate applications of hot and cold compresses would be given to get things moving and to break up the pain. You may want to try a hot water bottle or a heating pad, however. We have a little pad that has magnets in it and can be heated up in the microwave. This helps immensely. I also use that same warmed mullein garlic oil to massage around the ear, especially behind it and down to try to get the lymph moving and the Eustacian tubes to drain.
I have used tea tree oil directly into the painful ear w/ good results. It's better to warm it up a bit first, as cold oils can increase the pain and hurt very much.
Have you considered homeopathic remedies? I have used them since my children were infants w/ excellent results. Soul Doctor and Amembal on this site are excellent resources. I've used Belladonna in cases of intense left sided pain w/ a red cheek or ear and Aconite for intense, sudden, sometimes heated onset (of any illness, not just earaches) all with EXCELLENT results and no side effects. I state before you now that I believe Aconite and Belladonna saved my infant daughter's life when she contracted the meningococcemia (bacterial meningitis) that almost killed her at 12 1/2 months. You can consult Homeopathic Medicine at Home by Panos & Heimlich or Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicine by Dana Ullman to get yourself started. You can also buy a small children's kit w/ 6 remedies (6 of the most commonly used), to get yourself started on this path.

Please be careful. We are avid "alternative therapy" people but ears and eyes need to be treated with caution. Don't put anything into his ear as this could push the infection deeper and create an even worse condition. I hope the doctor gave him a strong antibiotic to clear it up quickly. Our son got one that was wonderful. I wish I could remember the name..it started with a "Z". Three days was all he needed.
We find that children's Advil or Motrin works much better than Tylenol and also lasts twice as long. Maybe get him some.
Another thing that helps is if you have a hot water bottle have him lie with his head on it. Heat seems to relax the ear and take some of the pain away.
I feel sorry for him. Earaches hurt.
Just take the child to a doctor for antibiotics. Untreated ear infections have the potential to develop into mastoiditis and even a brain abscess in the worst case scenario. It's not worth it. This is a child. See a real doctor don't just leave him with a fever suffering. It could even be strep throat with ear pain which could affect his heart for the rest of his life.
Ear aches are very common in children. Finish the antibiotic, then take the child to a chiropractor who specializes in upper cervical work (can search the upper cervical database). By freeing up the upper vertabrea, you loosen the Eustacian tubes which allow the fluid to build when blocked. This will keep you from having to give him antiobiotics again and again. All the best.
A bacterial or fungal infection in the ear causes inflammation that can be very painful. Simple ear infections of the external ear canal can be self-treated, but infections of the middle ear need a doctor's care.
To treat an infection of you son's ears, use antiseptic essential oils, like basil, Melrose or ImmunPower. Put a drop in your hand and soak a small piece of cotton (small enough to fit snugly in the ear) in the oil. Place the piece of cotton in the ear and apply the leftover oil to both the front and back of the ear with a finger. Never drop an essential directly into the ear.
If the eardrum is injured, see your doctor. Always treat both ears, even if only one hurts, because when one is infected, the other is likely to be on its way. Continue the treatment several days after the pain has disappeared to prevent a recurrence. If the ear problem began as a throat infection, spray the throat with an antiseptic essential oil blend, like Thieves.
For your child, dilute the essential oils with a few drops of olive oil before applying to the ear. Be sure the essential oil is therapeutic grade.
Many foods cause allergies; diary and wheat seem to be the predominate culprits in ear infections.
Hope this helps.
I soaked a cotton ball in peroxide and squeezed it into my daughters ear it took the pain away immediately. At the time she was 8 and had a high fever and was in alot of pain.
I never thought of giving her anything as I was raised very holistically. Her ear oozed yellowish fluid for about a week, She was able to go to camp after all.
a coworker of mine who wore two hearing aids because of damage to his inner ears gave me this one. His kids would get ear infections constanrly and he knew that antibiotics over time were not a good thing.
Squeeze three drops of rubbing alcohol into the ear. It will sting for a minute. Then the infection is gone. And the alcohol eveporates so there is no danger of water of fluid staing in the ear to continue the problem.
That's it. All better now.
