Is it typical to have bumps on the skin after massage therapy?

Question:
I started seeing a massage therapist after a car accident and I have started getting red bumps on my back, neck, shoulders and arms. They sort of look like acne but are a darker and don't puss at all. They arn't really itchy. I do plan on asking her about it when I go see her but just wanted to know what you all think.

Answers:
Are you allergic to any kind of nuts hon?
I would definately be letting the therapist know. Even though this is no itchyness I would hazard a guess you are having a reaction to the massage oil.
It could also be lack of water before, during or after the massage but I highly doubt it.
This is not normal, it sounds like she is using a old oil of some sort or you are reacting to what she is using..drink lots of water and ask her to use a different lotion, rachel perrys massage lotion is really good and natural
Are they actually bumps... or just spots? Dark red spots are very common with a vigorous massage and it is called Petechiae skin purpura... a fancy name for spots caused by leaky capillaries. A 'hicky' on the neck is another example of this. In the context of massage, this is totally fine as long as it is just small spots. It means the blood flow has increased a lot during the massage. However, if they are actually raised up bumps that you can feel, that could be a reaction to the massage oil or a bacteria.
