Have you ever tried hypnotherapy?Did it work for you?

Question:

Answers:
Yes and unbelievably Yes.
I had a serious phobia of wasps. When I was at school, I was stung on the back of my neck and my throat swelled up and I couldn't breathe. (before you say it, yes, I know now that obviously a sting on the neck will make throat swell but I was only young and seriously thought I was going to die)
My phobia got so bad that I have run in front of cars and worse, just to escape a wasp.
I went to see a hypnotherapist and after a sort of regression, where he took me back to the time at school I was actually stung, was given some exercises to do afterwards when I felt panicky.
I was so cynical at the time, convinced it wouldn't work, but I am no longer frightened of wasps after being terrified for 25 years plus.
I had hypnotherapy to give up smoking. It worked for five months then the craving for a smoke came back.
Tried it, didnt work
Yes though you have to be totally relaxed and willing to take on board the suggestions a hypnotist gives you - otherwise it won't work.
samething as sandy lasted for months then i found some cigs i'd bought before goin for it, tried one and bingo off i started again
Yes, I was 'cured' of a very severe wasp phobia after 5 sessions. Eventually, I 'forget' that I am cured and the fear starts to come back, but if I practice self hypnosis or go back for a 'top-up' session then I can get back to being totally unafraid again.
i think i want to but not sure if it will wrk for my OCD. my mum reckons it will, hmmm...should i? let me knw if u try it so i know to try it too :) try homoepath meds or chinese or accupuncture.
I am a trained and qualified hypnotherapist - and have the certificate to prove it! But ironically, I am very sceptical about it. I've never been hypnotised myself, all I can achieve is a state of deep relaxation. I can understand that for some people it can be very helpful to enter such a state and receive calm, comforting advice, but I'm not sure if I buy into the 'altered consciousness' idea.

Two of my friends regularly have hypnotherapy and swear it works - one to stop smoking and the other for depression and anxiety. But the one still smokes and the other is still depressed and anxious, so I really can't understand their assessment that it 'works'!
No but my mum had it done because she was scared sh**less of spiders, now she can actually pick one up if its in the house!! Hand on heart! It was amazing!

Also an ex-boyfriend had it done to quit smoking and he stopped!!

I would encourage - I dont really have any reason to be hypnotized but i might find one and do it!! :-)
Yes. Many years ago. Me and three others sat on chairs and were hypnotised. It felt like a strange, new level of consciousness. It wasn't at all unpleasant. At the end we were told to hold the chair seats and that we wouldn't be able to let go of the seat! So it was, until the hypnotherapist told us we could release it. Weird but comfortable. DB
