Aromatherapists would you do reflexology on a pregnant client?
Question:
Answers:
I would make them sign a medical waver, and probably not use many essential oils, if any on them.
While there is no documented case of essential oils applied to the body harming a fetus, there are sue happy lawyers in the USA and that makes one need to practice with caution.
And remember be gentle as their feet are probably swollen and they will be more flexible than usual.
If you are trained to know which acupuncture points stimulate the uterus, maybe. There are allot of uterus stimulation points on the feet. I have to be VERY careful in clinic with my fertility patients. I have even used acupuncture to expel a dead fetus, so it is very powerful.
I have had reflexology before, and had strong reactions (all good) to it. However, the reflexologist didn't have the 4 years of post graduate Oriental medical school training to diagnose and specifically treat conditions safely that is required of an acupuncturist.
It sounds like you are doing great works! My concern is that reflexology is very powerful.
It is prudent to get a written consent form from a health care provider before applying either reflexology or massage to a pregnant client.
"Don't use reflexology in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy in case the changed flow of energy triggers a miscarriage, especially in a first pregnancy or if the woman has miscarried before. Later in the pregnancy, reflexology is a boon for easing aching legs and back."
