What are the side effects of celexa when you just STOP taking it?

Why would you just stop taking it?? You should always speak to the Doc that prescribed it before you do so without professional advice. Celexa ( citalopram hydrobromide) is usually prescribed for depression which can take 2-4 weeks before there is any noticeable change in your symptoms. However, if your symptoms became worse, then you should of notified your Doc. By, suddenly, stopping the medication can cause withdrawal signs such as insomnia ( difficulty sleeping), loss of appetite, irritability, restlessness, and,of course, the return of the symptoms of depression. Please contact your Doc, SOON.
First off, congratulations for WANTING to get off that drug!!
As far as answering, the main thing is that you'll eventually have to deal with the withdrawal.
For the most part, when you deal with withdrawal, you'll just have to tough it out, but there are some things that can help cleanse out the toxins and may help to minimize some of the effects of withdrawal...
Drinking water will help to detox, and taking some supplements that work as cleansers may help as well. Specifically, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (decaffeinated), Chlorophyll (fantastic cleanser), and even good amounts of fiber and water helps some people (although it's not very comfortable for the lower level of detoxification you get).
All that being said, it's likely that the symptoms should stop relatively shortly after your last pill (it's never as long as it feels like it is). Your neurotransmitters don't take too terribly long to scream for something they are addicted to after you stop.
Another important thing to note is that no matter how bad it gets, taking more of the drug will only make the withdrawal last longer and will be harder on you in the long run. Good luck, and congrats again!
Well, first of all there is a reason for taking it..When you quit taking it without your doctor's consent, you will only hurt yourself and maybe need some therapy. Ask your doctor. Your equilibrium will be thrown off and you will feel loopy and not good. I did this and boy was it a HUGE mistake. Now I am on a different medication and it has helped me out tons. DO not do this, it will screw you up...If you have it and are supposed to take it, then take it...
As another respondant wrote, feeling a little out-of-body is a common response depending on the dose you were taking. The odd effects from stopping the medication can be reduced by tapering the dose in halves until you get to 5mg. Change the dose every five to seven days until you're done and then continue the 5mg for five to seven days. Your side effects should be next to zero with that plan.
Be aware by the nature of the medication, the effects of the medicine (depending on how long you took it) will revert back to baseline in about four weeks total from when you stop the medication. I have seen patients say they did great for the first four weeks and then went back into profound depression and couldn't understand why - well now you know.
I would like to see the data on "chlorophyll detoxifiers" and the other products being promoted above. If there is really some benefit, great. But if you're selling snake oil, move on.
Whereas not every medication is for every person/problem, the Celexa you were prescribed was for some reason - usually depression. Its not something to mess around with. It makes good sense to have a discussion with your medical provider to see if you symptoms are completely improved and you're ready to stop the medication (some people this is very appropriate) or if it is premature. Or perhaps you just are not tolerating that particular medication very well. Whatever the case, involve your prescriber for a professional opinion.
Good luck.
My daughter was on this drug. Withdrawal symptoms included headaches and nausea within 24 hours; inability to focus.
The doctor agreed to wean her off the celexa slowly over a 6 week period of time. We used a natural supplement to ease the withdrawal and focus issues. The natural supplement we used was called Neu-Becalm'd. This product worked very well.
Please note: it can take several months to feel like you are thinking clearly again when coming off this type of medication.
