I use Valerian root occasionally to help reduce stress and found that 1 capsule is more than sufficient to cut the edge so to speak. If you want to sleep take 2-3. Drink plenty of water and get some exercise as well as taking some B12 which is a stress reducer as well.

my night nose is 2000mg and boy does it knock me!
i cant comment on the 500mg but i do know that Saint Johns Wart is just fabulous for stress!
i would recommend just to start using this on the weekend so that you can monitor how it effects u??

I take take it for stress my doctor said take 3 capsules 3 times a day 500 mg each capsules drink plenty of water and dont start at that dose untill how it effects you dont drive until your body ajusts also you should consult your doctor before starting any medications !!

Here's the problem with that.. different people respond differently to different supplements.
Because of that, unfortunately anyone else's dose won't tell you what you should take.
What I would recommend is to take 1 pill about 3-4 hours before you normally go to sleep on a night where you won't be going out anywhere. This is simply to find out how your body responds to Valerian. Once you know how your body responds (whether it relaxes you a little, a lot, puts you to sleep, or whatever), then you can better estimate what would be your best dose during the day.
I know people that pass out within 20-30 minutes from a single Valerian, some that get wide awake but very relaxed from it, and some that pass out in a couple hours with one pill.. that's why I say 3-4 hours before bed. If you pass out from it, you don't have to worry about going out, but if you wake up, you won't have to worry about being up half the night.
