Question:
Has anyone had any results with using ayahuasca for treating depression? For those that don't know, it is a brew used by shamans, containing the compound DMT (schedule I in the US) and several other plants (including an MAOI). I recently read a National Geographic article about someone having been completely cured of depression after drinking this brew. Has anyone else had any success with it? Here is the article I read:

I have heard of people being able to cure themselves of depression just by making the brew at home. I think theres a 50/50 chance though. Although it could cure you of depression it could also put you into depression or worsen the condition. I have found myself depressed, but i didnt try ayuhuasca. Lsd. Helped. Theres a lot things that could potentially help but it think ayuhuasca its a bit hardcore its too strong of a hallucinogen. if you have never tried. You can order b.cappi and the other stuff of the internet. hope this was of some help
Why not just take conventional meds for depression? Ayahuasca is indeed used by shamans, but it is used in religious rituals to induce very intense hallucinations, and has some pretty undesirable side effects associated with it (like vomiting). I don't see why you would want to use it for depression when you have the option of taking much safer, more proven drugs...
