Even pharmacologists at the drug companies know that the phytochemicals they try to synthesize for their patented drugs come from studying phytochemicals in nature.
However if you're just looking for the herbal alternative to "aching, sniffing, sneezing, stuffy head, so you can rest medicine," you probably haven't spend a lot of time studying botany, pharmacology or herbology. Herbs tend to contain hundreds of phytochemicals and those have an inter-modulation effect that makes the herbs' benefits more gradual.
On the other hand, go eat some foxglove and tell me that the effects of digitalis are "gradual." Just make sure you're near a crash cart if you're foolish enough to do it.
i have used herbs for healing purposes for years, so have the chinese, native americans and most of the cultures of the world. if you can be more specific, we can guide you to what you need or want.
Did you know that aspirin come from Willow bark? What do you think Indians used back in their day? HERBS! Have you tried Passion Flower? I hear that this is a good one for relaxing as well as Lemon Balm. I used to grow Lemon Balm and it really worked. When ever I was in a bad mood or had a bad day at work, I'd brew a cup. This particular herb was used to make beer. I never tried the Passion Flower but have known others who have with good results but the Lemon Balm, I grew myself and has an extremely light taste of lemon with water so there is no bad "herbal breath." Good luck in finding it. I love it fresh, never found it dried.
Valerian, passion flower TINCTURE...the alcohol makes it powerful...
Many of today's medicines are derived from herbs, fungi, roots, bark, and other parts of members of the plant kingdom. Many of us find our own relaxation in the caffeine from the dried, fermented and roasted so-called "beans" from the flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae (coffee) or the leaves, buds, or twigs of the tea bush, Camellia sinensis, steeped in hot water for a few minutes.
Have you tried sassafras tea, made from the roots of the sassafras "tree" or bush?
.
Many modern prescription drugs were discovered by studying herbal remedies. Aspirin was originally obtained from willow leaves and bark. Penicillin and other antibiotics are from moulds and fungi.
Camomile and hibiscus are two herbs reccomended for relaxation. Different things work on different people.
