Is it a good idea to massage a bruise?

Question:
Will this make the bruise heal faster? The massaging of a bruise is all the rage in chinese culture. The idea is that the blood will be more spread out, therefore increasing absorption area. Is this true?

Thx for your time =]

Answers:
Ice massage is acceptable but that's all.
You may consult a doctor in the hospital. A bruise is to be treated with medicine after the doctor has examined it. There are always emergency place in the hospital if you want to heal it faster.
The best way to answer your question is actually with another question...Do you understand what a bruise really is? A bruise is an area of your body that received a great force in one spot of your body, breaking the blood vessels in that area. Until those blood vessels are completely reformed, the bruise stays in that area(hence the change in color of a bruise...dark = new, fading into the sunset=old)until new blood cells have formed. So.in my opinion(I am not a doc, only have license as a certified Nurse Asst.) I would not recc.massaging the bruise but would leave well enough alone. Your body is a fantastic machine and can do great repairs upon itself. Good question though.
Within the first 48 hours of getting the bruise injury, you should apply ice for 30 minutes or less at a time as needed to reduce swelling. After the first two days, apply a warm compress 3-4 times a day to open the capilaries and encourage blood flow.

Rubbing the area vigorously can also stimulate blood flow, but it can possibly re-injure the damaged tissue, which might actually extend the time bruise takes to heal completely.
no never massage a bruise it needs to heal because the tissue is damaged and you will damage it more. just let it be and it will go away on it's own.
no. better to apply cold compress for the 1st 24 hours then use hot compress afterwards until bruise is completely gone.
What is your intention with massaging a bruise? I am a massage therapist and I've been taught that as long as it doesn't hurt pressing on it, it should be fine to massage over it, even if it's still dark in color. If your going to get a massage, let the therapist know about the bruise and if it's still painful.
