Hopi ear candles. Can anyone tell me anything about this treatment? Have you tried it?

Question:
Are they safe?

Answers:
Most of the responses are totally inaccurate. It is a widely held misconception that the "crud" is ear wax - it isn't it is just the melted wax from the candle. The treatment is however excellent and works on a variety of conditions. It is absolutely safe.

Don't believe anything posted on Quackwatch - the information is poorly researched and comes from an emotional response rather than an informed opinion. I have tackled them on several issues and strangely enough they never ever respond.
its great : )
They are safe as long as you don't let the flame get too close to your head, oh and that dripping hot wax can hurt too. Otherwise they work great, kinda neat to see how much crud comes out of your ears when you do this treatment.
They are great and really effective at removing earwax. You lie on your side and someone else, beauty therapist, partner etc holds them in your ear. You will hear crackling and hissing as they start to work. Treatment takes about 15 minutes and afterwards you can open the candle and see whats come out of your ear.
Pointless - they simply CAN NOT work! And they are potentially dangerous!

There perfectly safe, you lay down and a someone holds the specilaized candle in your ear, it unblocks wax and cleanses ears and the hearing amongst other things. The candles oftne cost around £10 for six, it may have changed now but they are very good. They were originally either Tibetan or Indian, and are always used rather then medicine. If the ancients used them then its good enough.
These are great! But get someone to administer the ear candle to you as its a bit risky otherwise. Lie down on your side the candle is lit and then gently positioned into the ear. When you have it positioned comfortably your partner holds it steady while you relax listening to the gentle sea-like sound of the candle. Your partner should have a damp flannel nearby to wipe away any smuts and a glass of water to dunk the candle in when it has reached its natural end.

I suffer from sinus problems and itching in th ears. These totally safe, natural candles really help with the sinuses and seems to free up excess wax as well. If you get a release of wax over the next few days it tends to smell strongly of honey - just like the ear candle does!

The ones I use just burn down so you can't open them up to look inside as they are a hollow tube that burns down. They were originally used by Hopi native Americans - hence the name.

It is also the most relaxing experience. Right - I'm off to buy some as I haven't used any for a few months!
It does'nt work, its a hoax. Look up " The Straight Dope" in Wikipedia.. Ear Candling.
Hopi Indians DID'NT use this type of treatment.
They are wonderful! Please have a partner nearby to prevent injury as the flame on the candle can get fairly large.
